The Rich History of Notre Dame-Siena
Our school is made of two different schools who merged more than 10 years ago namely Notre Dame of Lagao for Girls and Notre Dame Dadiangas for Girls. This all started on the year 1953 when Brother Damian Teston, FMS, Director of Notre Dame of Lagao, opened two extensions in the old church of Dadiangas. Two years after, Notre Dame of Dadiangas was opened with Brother Michael O’keefe, FMS, as Director/Principal. All of the clases were held in 8 improvised classrooms of sawali and cogon, which are kinds of wood, constructed in the current site of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Church which is in Roxas Avenue, General Santos City.
The Dominican Sisters took over the administration of Notre Dame of Dadiangas with the late Sr. Raymunda Santos, OP as Directress also known as Superior or Principal, while the Marist Brothers transferred the NDD Boys’ Department to the present site of Notre Dame Dadiangas University also called NDDU on the years 1958 and 1959 respectively.
Notre Dame of Dadiangas had an enrollment of 263 students with 5 Dominican Sisters and 7 lay teachers in the school year 1959-1960. After 6 years, it opened the Grade School Department with 100 pupils in grades 1 & 2. The Department Of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS), now known as DepEd, recognized it as a separate entity from NDD Boys’ Department and got a new name, Notre Dame of Dadiangas Girls' Department. 10 years after, it changed its name to Notre Dame Dadiangas for Girls.
NDDFG underwent a self-survey on the year 1978-1979 with its second self-survey on 1980. In November 1980, it had its first Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities or in short, PAASCU, visit. The High School Department experienced the first PAASCU Initial Survey as well and got the candidate status for formal accreditation. After a year of hard work, NDDFG became a full-pledged member of this prestigious accrediting association and earned its status as the First PAASCU Accredited High School in the entire NDEA System. The High School Department was given an initial accreditation for 3 years. The school hurdled through a preliminary survey then got its claim which is the First PAASCU Accredited High School and Grade School in South Cotabato. It had a PAASCU re-accreditation which is second for the High School and first for the Grade School.
The Grade School became co-ed with 22 boys in Kindergarten 1 from Notre Dame of Lagao plus another PAASCU accreditation for both departments and was awarded another five years accreditation status. On September 27, 2000, approval of the new name – NOTRE DAME OF GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Inc. (NDGSC) was made by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as stipulated in the Amended Articles of Incorporation. The year after, the High School Department became co-ed with the enrollment of boys in the first year. Another PAASCU accreditation for both departments was made and was awarded another five years of Accreditation status.
All of this was and is God's blessing on us, Sienans. The Dominican ideals is "Passion for Truth and Compassion for Humanity." We thank the Lord for this religious school and His every single blessing on all of us.
